Fire destroys timber lorry linked to fatal collision

SELANGAU: A stationary timber lorry believed to be involved in the fatal incident that claimed the lives of a married couple the night before, was completely destroyed in a fire at Mile 62, Sepiring, along the Bintulu-Sibu Road, Pan Borneo Highway, this morning.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said they were alerted of the incident at 11:25 am and dispatched firefighters from Selangau station to the scene, about 19 kilometres away.

Upon arrival, the team confirmed that the lorry’s cabin was fully engulfed in flames.

Extinguishing efforts was promptly carried out using water sourced from their fire engine and they managed to bring the blaze under control within minutes.

Once the situation was deemed safe and there were no remaining sources of ignition, the operation concluded at 12:33 pm.

The night before, at around 7:45 pm, a married couple were killed after their motorcycle rammed into the rear of the lorry that was parked by the roadside.

Mukah Police Chief, DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias, said the victims, both aged 28, suffered severe head injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
