KUCHING: A fire engulfed five industrial premises in Demak Laut Industrial Park this afternoon, with firefighters battling strong winds and low water pressure to prevent the blaze from spreading further.
Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said no casualties had been reported as firefighters continued efforts to contain the blaze using defensive firefighting techniques.
The affected premises comprised an ice cream factory, a food products factory, a thinner storage facility, a fertiliser factory, and a logistics warehouse.
BOMBA received an emergency call at 12:23 pm, and firefighters from the Tabuan Jaya fire station arrived at the scene at 12:38 pm, with crews from the Petra Jaya and Batu Lintang stations deployed to assist.
The fire initially broke out in a storage area containing powdered ingredients used in the manufacture of ice cream before spreading to the neighbouring premises.
Firefighters established fire breaks to stop the flames from spreading to other nearby factories.
A total of 32 firefighters were deployed to the scene, with three Fire Rescue Tenders (FRT), two Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) vehicles, and a water tanker.
Three police personnel were also at the scene assisting with the operations.
