Fire erupts at Miri police quarters, family escapes unharmed

MIRI: A significant fire broke out on the third floor of a police quarters unit at the Miri police headquarters (IPD Miri) located on Jalan Miri Pujut.

The incident occurred on Monday (Aug 5) night, causing substantial damage.

A family of seven residing in the affected unit managed to escape the blaze without injuries.

According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department’s operations centre, firefighters from Miri Sentral responded promptly to an emergency call at 7.10 pm.

They arrived at the scene swiftly, where they found the unit already engulfed in flames.

 A video of the incident, which went viral on social media last night, shows the intense fire consuming the unit.

Despite the severity, firemen managed to bring the fire under control by 7. 31 pm.

The fire caused 80 per cent damage to the unit. The actual cause of the fire and the total loss incurred are still under investigation.
