KUCHING: A warehouse at the Bintawa Industrial Estate was gutted in an early morning blaze today, with the entire structure collapsing under the intensity of the flames.
However, swift action by firefighters prevented the fire from spreading to nearby premises.
The fire broke out at around 5.40 am. Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported.
By the time first responders arrived, the non-permanent warehouse structure, measuring about 150 by 120 square feet, was already engulfed in flames.
Firefighters from Tabuan Jaya, Padungan and Batu Lintang stations were deployed to the scene, about 6km away, following an emergency call.
With the warehouse already collapsed and buried under zinc sheets, the team concentrated on suppression efforts from above using fire engines.
The blaze was brought under control at 6.20 am and fully contained by 7.50 am, preventing it from spreading to surrounding premises.
Overhaul works are ongoing to ensure there is no reignition.
The cause of the fire and losses incurred are still under investigation.
