MIRI: A family of four was made homeless in a fire that burned their semi-detached house at Lorong Interhill 2 here yesterday morning.

No one was injured in the incident. The flames could be seen from a few hundred metres away at the height of the blaze.
According to the house owner when met at the scene, no one was at home when the fire broke out.

“My two young children were at school, while my husband was away working,” said the housewife who wished to
be anonymous.

Prior to the incident, she had gone out to fetch her children from school. A team of eight firemen from Lopeng Fire station was rushed to the scene upon receiving a distress call on the incident at 9.24am.
Swift action by the firemen managed to prevent the fire from spreading to the adjoining house.

The fire victim’s neighbour said she felt relieved that her 19 year-old son and 96 year-old mother had exited their house before the blaze became intense and almost spread to their house.

“My son was asleep upstairs when he heard loud noise from the next door house. He immediately woke up and pushed his grandmother on a wheelchair out of the house,” said the woman.
Firefighters brought the fire under control in 20 minutes.

Three cars — a Toyota Camry, van and a Perodua Myvi were razed in the blaze. The vehicles were completely destroyed in the incident. The cause of the fire and loss to properties are yet to be ascertained.
