KUCHING: Members of the public are advised to stay alert and stay safe to prevent fire outbreaks during the festive season.
Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department director Khirudin Drahman said during festive season people got carried away and thus forgot about their own safety.
“We must never compromise our own safety, but to always make it our top agenda,” he said when contacted, yesterday.
He said people must be reminded of the “3L” syndrome that is not to be “lalai, leka, lupa”, which means reckless, carelessness, forgetfulness and keep naked fire under constant watch.
“Remember to use electrical appliances according to its specification, and do not overuse it,” he stressed.
He said it is very important to practise good housekeeping to prevent fire outbreaks.
“Good housekeeping means keep away and separate flammable materials, never stack old newspaper, cloths, or empty boxes at home or in any buildings,” he said.
He said corridors, stairways, and stairwells must not be blocked and be kept free and clear of any materials.
“Most importantly, whatever you bring home know their potential danger if ignited or burned.”
