SERIAN: A major fire swept through Kampung Murud Plaman today, destroying three houses and leaving 24 residents homeless.
The blaze, which occurred at 10:59 am, engulfed the three semi-permanent houses – each suffering about 90 per cent damage.
Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported as all occupants managed to evacuate to safety.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Serian and Siburan stations were dispatched to the scene following a distress call.
Upon arrival, they confirmed the incident and performed the extinguishing deed using water supplied from fire engines.
The team managed to prevent the flames from spreading to a neighbouring house occupied by three people, which sustained only minor smoke damage.
Overhaul works and safety checks were carried out to ensure there was no risk of reignition before the teams returned to their respective stations.
The cause of the fire and losses incurred are still under investigation.
