SIBU: A fire destroyed a non-permanent house along Jalan Salim Stabau here late last night (Dec 25).

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said it received an emergency call at about 11.01 pm, initially reporting a longhouse fire at Rumah Grace Eton.

However, upon arrival, firefighters confirmed that the incident involved a single residential house rather than a longhouse.

The fire completely razed the non-permanent structure, estimated to measure about 60 by 80 feet.

Firefighters from the Sibu Sentral Fire and Rescue Station, with assistance from the Sibu Jaya station, were deployed to the scene.

A total of 15 personnel were involved in the operation, using one fire rescue tender (FRT), one light fire rescue tender (LFRT) and one emergency medical rescue services (EMRS) vehicle.

Firefighting operations were carried out using a 300-foot hose line, two nozzles and an auxiliary hose line, with water sourced from the fire engine and a nearby fire hydrant.

The blaze was successfully brought under control and fully extinguished, with overhaul works conducted to ensure the area was safe.

No casualties were reported, and firefighters later returned to their station after the situation was confirmed to be under control.
