BINTULU: Fire razed an unoccupied building at Jalan Abang Galau here on Tuesday night. The fire was believed to have started in a room located at the upper floor of the building. Bintulu Fire and Rescue operation commander PBKII Helman Main said eight firemen on one fire engine and an emergency rescue services (EMRS) unit were deployed to the scene after they received a distress call about the incident.
Upon arrival at the scene, the fire had already gutted about 70 percent of the building. “We managed to contain the fire and prevented it from spreading to other adjacent buildings,” said Helman. There were no injuries or casualties reported in the incident. Based on a notice pasted on the building, it has been empty since August 5, 2016.
