MUKAH: A family of three was left homeless after their wooden home at Jalan Kampung Igan was destroyed by fire yesterday (Aug 25).
Two neighbouring houses, inhabited by four and three residents, were also affected sustaining damage of 20 per cent and 15 per cent respectively.
Fortunately, all occupants managed to evacuate safely, and no injuries were reported in the 6.44 pm incident.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Mukah station were dispatched to the scene, about 47km away, following an emergency call.
Upon arrival, they found the first house beyond saving and performed the extinguishing deed using water sourced from a nearby fire hydrant.
The flames were brought under control at 7.50 pm, after which firefighters conducted overhaul operations to prevent any reignition.
Once the situation was deemed safe, the team ended the operation at 8.57 pm.
The cause of the fire and losses incurred are still under investigation.
