SIBU: The Lanang Volunteer Firefighting Team (LVFT) collaborated with the service team of Dudong assemblyman Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing to distribute water to residents of Eco Garden housing estate, Sibu Jaya on Thursday.
LVFT Captain, Daniel Iing Shii Ngie, said recently, the local residents reported a lack of water supply which greatly affected their daily lives.
After learning that Tiong’s service team had previously distributed water, Iing contacted it to offer manpower assistance.
He revealed that eight LVFT members were dispatched to assist while Tiong’s team arranged for a water tanker.
To ensure residents could collect water efficiently, everyone worked together. Residents prepared their buckets and containers in advance so they could fill them immediately once the tanker arrived.
“The water distribution ran smoothly from 5 pm to 7 pm,” Iing added.
Meanwhile, Sarawak National Consumer Action Council (MTPN) has expressed disappointment with the water supply disruption that had lasted for almost two weeks in the housing estate area.

MTPN Sarawak president, Lucas Lau, said that since Sept 24, more than 400 residents in the area had been forced to live without clean water supply.
“Water is a basic necessity of life that cannot be compromised because it is important for personal hygiene, sanitation as well as the continuity of daily operations of local residents and businesses.
“The problem of water shortages for more than 10 days is not only inconvenient but also affects public health,” he added.
According to Lau, MTPN Sarawak has received more than 80 official complaints from residents, expressing their frustration and desperation due to the lack of water for a long period.
