MIRI: Firefighters in Lutong here kept a close watch overnight as persistent downpours triggered rising waters across several flood-prone areas in the northern outskirts of the city.

The Lutong Fire and Rescue Station’s Alpha team began patrols at 1:30 am, combing through villages and residential zones identified as high risk.
Their rounds took them through Kampung Senadin Jaya, Kampung Sealine, Jalan Lutong-Kuala Baram, Kampung Merikan Road, Senadin Phase 2 housing estate, and the Desaras area in Tudan.
Heavy rain showed no signs of letting up as officers reported sections of the main road from Batu Satu towards Kuala Baram still submerged.
In Senadin Jaya and Sealine, floodwaters had spilled over onto the streets, while in Desaras, Tudan, several homes were inundated after drains overflowed.
According to Lutong Fire and Rescue Station’s chief, Henry Jugah, the monitoring operation formed part of standard flood preparedness measures, ensuring early response if conditions worsen.
No casualties or evacuations were reported at the time of patrol.
Local authorities have urged residents in low-lying areas to remain vigilant, as weather forecasts indicate rain may continue.
