BINTULU: Calm words and quick thinking by firefighters helped avert a potential tragedy early this morning (Dec 23) when a distressed local man was persuaded from self-harm at his home.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said they were alerted at 12.28 am and dispatched a team from Bintulu station to Jalan Alamanda 13, Simple Park.

On arrival, police informed the team that the 31-year-old man was inside a room.

Through patient persuasion, the man opened the door on his own, unharmed.

He was comforted by the emergency medical rescue services (EMRS) team before being handed over to paramedics for further care.
