SERIAN: Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) personnel in Sarawak have been warned that they may face dismissal if found sharing false, provocative, or unverified content on social media.
Sarawak Bomba director Jamri Masran said this during the department’s monthly assembly at Serian fire station this morning (June 26), following a directive from the Public Services Department dated June 19.
The circular, issued by the Director-General of Public Services, prohibits civil servants from making unauthorised public statements under Sub-Regulations 19(1) and 19(2) of the Public Officers (Conduct and Discipline) Regulations 1993.
“Anyone found committing such offences may face disciplinary action, including dismissal, as provided under the relevant regulations,” Jamri said in his speech.
While the government encourages the use of social media to improve communication and transparency, he stated that civil servants must exercise caution and professionalism when using the platform.
“Social media is a powerful tool that allows agencies to engage quickly and broadly with the public and stakeholders, but it must be used wisely,” he said.
He urged all personnel to avoid posting or sharing content that includes false information, slander, incitement, provocation, or any material that cannot be verified.
