KUCHING: Fireworks and firecrackers worth about RM3.18 million were seized from several districts across Sarawak during ‘Ops Taring Charlie’.

The Sarawak Brigade of the General Operations Force (GOF) carried out six raids from Feb 5 to 7, resulting in several arrests and the confiscation of fireworks and firecrackers without valid permits.

Sarawak GOF Brigade Commander, SAC Lim Bak Phai, said two raids in the Padawan district led to the arrest of three local men, aged 31 to 42.

“Various types of fireworks and firecrackers totalling 3,922 units, along with a vehicle, were seized, with the total value estimated at RM1,795,690.

“One raid each in Kuching, Serian, Sibu and Miri resulted in the arrest of five local men, aged 22 to 70, and the seizure of fireworks and firecrackers valued at RM1,390,608,” he added in a statement today.

All arrests and seized items have been handed over to the relevant district police headquarters for further action under Section 8 of the Explosives Act 1957.
