KUCHING: Khaimal Borneo Travel and Tours Sdn Bhd (Khaimal Borneo) has received the first Scania New Bus Generation (NBG) and the first Euro V Semi Hi-Deck Tour Coach in Sarawak, marking a significant step towards a sustainable transport system in the state.

The MoU signing ceremony between Khaimal Borneo and Scania Sdn Bhd was witnessed by principal assistant secretary to the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Dr Elena Gregoria Chai Chin Fern.

Managing director Mohamad Fikri Zainol Majid said the handover of the new bus aims to introduce and inaugurate the new tour bus produced by Scania Malaysia in collaboration with the bus body manufacturer Terus Maju Sdn Bhd, equipped with the latest technology, green technology, and environmentally friendly features in line with the aspirations of the state government under the leadership of esteemed Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, to move towards the use of green technology and enhance environmental sustainability.

“Furthermore, this programme supports the aspirations of Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah to attract more tourists to Sarawak in 2025 and beyond.

“The New Bus Generation of Scania can save up to nine per cent in fuel and emissions, without compromising on performance and drivability.

“The most significant savings coming from enhanced engine efficiency and improved cruise control with active prediction, he said this in his speech here today.

He added that the new bus generation is built to offer enhanced safety for both drivers and passengers through reinforced chassis construction along with the latest addition of Lane Departure Warning (LDW) to its standard safety systems that already includes Electronic Brake System (EBS) with Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) and Traction Control.

“Developed with driver and passenger environment in mind, the driver area of the NBG offers the best possible work environment in terms of ergonomics,reachability, and excellent visibility while a comfortable passenger experience is achieved through a forgiving suspension and an efficient gearbox with smooth transmission.

“Additionally, the efficient climate system and low noise environment of the NBG further improves passenger comfort,” he added.

Similarly, dealer director of East Region, Scania Southeast Asia, Rini Sabir Mässgård, said beyond the powertrain, driving style is another major factor that affects fuel consumption.

“Scania Digital Services including Driver Training and Coaching typically reduce fuel consumption and emissions further.

“Combined with the excellent drivability of Scania coaches, Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, and top-quality maintenance services, you can achieve even greater savings.

“We hope that the industry will adopt this more to achieve sustainability goals too,” she said.

For the record, Khaimal Borneo Travel and Tours Sdn. Bhd. was founded in 2018 and is based in Kuching, Sarawak.
