KUCHING: A total of 70 Cub Scouts gained essential first aid knowledge and emergency response skills during the 2026 Cub Scout First Aid Course organised by the Kuching City Scout Association.
Held at SK Laksamana on Aug 1 in conjunction with World Scout Scarf Day, the programme aimed to instil awareness of first aid practices while strengthening the Scout values of “Being Prepared” and “Doing a Good Turn Daily”.
Kuching City Assistant District Commissioner (Cub Scout), Lai Sie Nie, said that the course provided an important platform for young scouts to develop practical skills that could benefit themselves and others during emergencies.
“Through this programme, Cub Scouts were given the opportunity to learn basic first aid techniques and understand the importance of responding calmly and responsibly when facing unexpected situations,” she said.
The course featured practical sessions on wound management, bleeding control and bandaging, fainting response, as well as Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), conducted through a combination of theory and hands-on activities.
Senior first aid instructor Lau Yew Nen was invited as the facilitator, guiding participants through demonstrations and practical exercises to ensure they could understand and apply the techniques effectively.
A closing ceremony was held in the afternoon, officiated by Kuching City Scout District Commissioner Liaw May Choo, who witnessed the successful completion of the course by the participating Cub Scouts.
SK Laksamana representative Terrymelda Lamiri also attended the ceremony and expressed the school’s support for the initiative, while congratulating the participants for completing the training.
In her speech, Lai encouraged the Cub Scouts to remember the knowledge gained from the course and continue practising the spirit of helping others whenever assistance is needed.
Terrymelda said the skills acquired through the programme would help the children apply their knowledge in real-life situations and contribute positively to the community.
The Kuching City Scout Association thanked Lau for his professional guidance and SK Laksamana for providing the venue, which contributed to the successful organisation of the programme.
The association also reaffirmed its commitment to organising more skill-based activities in the future to equip young scouts with valuable knowledge and strengthen their spirit of community service.
