SIBU: First aid knowledge is not only a life-saving skill but also a social responsibility of every citizen.
Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) Sibu Branch’s Chairman, Penghulu Chua Hiong Kee, said it also fosters a spirit of compassion in society.
“First aid reflects a noble spirit of love that benefits both ourselves and others. A skill that is worth learning by all,” he said at the World First Aid Day 2025 celebration organised by the MRCS Sibu Branch here on Sunday.

The ceremony was officiated by Councillor Kevin Lau Kor Jie, who represented Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government, Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee.
In this regard, Chua stressed that the MRCS Sibu Branch encouraged community involvement in attaining such skills.
He said by equipping themselves with basic first aid skills, the community can strengthen the safety and resilience of the entire society.
“First aid skills are a valuable skills that individuals and the community should possess.
“Throughout this year, the MRCS Sibu Branch has been a leader in first aid training and continues to strive to equip more individuals with knowledge related to first aid,” he said.
It has developed a series of first aid courses offered in English, Malay and Mandarin, open to all ages and different needs, he said.
“You will not only learn to respond, but also learn how to prevent.
“Participants will acquire essential skills in emergency response, injury management knowledge, and life-saving techniques that have the potential to save lives and reduce the severity of injuries,” Chua added.
