BAU: Two first-time offenders found themselves on the wrong side of the law after allegedly testing positive for drugs today (June 18).

The unemployed 24-year-olds were detained under ‘Ops Tapis’ after the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (NCID), assisted by the Crime Prevention and Community Safety Division, conducted operations in Kampung Bobak Sejinjang Singai.

Bau Police Chief, Supt Mohd Haide A. Rahman, said both suspects were later taken to the NCID office where their urine screening returned positive results for amphetamine and methamphetamine.

He added that neither drugs nor any other incriminating items were found during the operation.

“Initial investigations found that the pair, who have no prior criminal or drug-related records, admitted to consuming syabu a day before their arrests.

“They are being held at Bau police lock-up pending further investigation,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug abuse.

Upon conviction, they may be fined up to RM5,000, or face imprisonment of up to two years, or both.

In addition, they can also be placed under two years of supervision under Section 38B of the same Act.
