BINTULU: A road maintenance revolution has taken place in Sarawak with the introduction of the Continuous Reinforced Concrete Pavement (CRCP) method, applied for the first time in the state at Junction 5 here.

The Sarawak Public Works Department (PWD) said the innovative approach, which uses continuously reinforced concrete to withstand heavy loads, was adopted as a long-term solution to recurring road damage caused by high-volume heavy vehicles.

“This project marks the first application of the CRCP method in Sarawak, carried out using specialised machinery brought in specifically for this purpose.

“The initiative demonstrates Sarawak PWD’s commitment to exploring more efficient, durable and sustainable road construction technologies, in line with the state’s infrastructure aspirations,” the department said in a Facebook statement.

PWD noted that the rehabilitation project was completed in just 24 days — 10 days ahead of the original Nov 1 schedule.

The department assured that close monitoring will continue to ensure smooth traffic flow and the safety of road users at the newly reopened junction.

“This step reflects the department’s ongoing determination to strengthen the quality of the state’s road infrastructure in line with our vision of ‘We Build For You’,” it added.
