SIMUNJAN: A total of 5,000 red tilapia fingerlings were released into ponds and farming cages in Kampung Sabun/Sedilo, marking the start of a freshwater fish farming project aimed at strengthening the rural economy through aquaculture development.
Batang Sadong MP Rodiyah Sapiee said the initiative is expected to create a sustainable source of income for local villagers.
“This project is not just symbolic; it is a genuine effort to help the community generate income through sustainable economic activities.
“With effective marketing strategies, the fish produced can be commercialised, opening up greater economic opportunities for the local residents,” she said.
Rodiyah was speaking at the launch of Kampung Sabun/Sedilo’s Sejahtera Komuniti Madani project, which was held in conjunction with the village’s Aidilfitri celebration organised by the Kampung Sabun/Sedilo Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) here recently.
During the event, she also shared good news about the approval for the construction of a new surau in Kampung Sabun.
Rodiyah said the application, submitted jointly with Simunjan assemblyman Awla Dris to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg last year, had been approved, with an allocation of RM3 million through the Public Works Department (PWD) Samarahan Branch.
“The tender for the project is expected to be issued by the end of this year. We will ensure that the project is implemented smoothly,” she said.
Meanwhile, the event also featured the presentation of contributions to senior citizens, prizes for winners of the Best Costume Contest, and presentation of ‘duit raya’ to the children.
