KUCHING: Two crew members have been rescued while one is still unaccounted for after a fibre boat they were travelling in last Saturday sank off the coast of Pulau Lakei near here.

According to Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Sarawak director, First Admiral (Maritime) Robert Teh Geok Chuan, the search for the missing man identified as Jamlee Masli, 41, is being carried out.

He said that the Kuching Maritime Rescue Sub-centre (MRSC) was told about the incident around 6pm.

Twelve crew members were despatched to the scene in two vessels called 35 ‘Kilat’ and Guard 42.

The three fishermen went out to sea at 7am on Saturday. Soon after that, they were caught in a storm and around 9.30am, their boat sank.

Together, they swam towards Pulau Lakei. Jamlee is said to have used a 20-litre petrol container to stay afloat. The other two clung to a life jacket until they were found by local fishermen around 5pm.

The rescued men Masli Rafaee, 64, and Mohamad Masli, 32, were taken to the maritime complex at Muara Tebas that night. Tabuan Jaya firemen and some police were also present at the scene.
