BINTULU: The Pavilion Public Toilet, located at the Old Bintulu Airport site (Lasar Kenyalang), was targeted in a theft incident over the past weekend, resulting in the loss of several essential public facility fittings.

According to a statement from the Bintulu Development Authority (BDA), the incident is believed to have occurred at night, with stolen items including eight metal sink taps from both the men’s and women’s toilets, two water hoses and one metal tissue holder.

BDA confirmed that a police report was lodged on Monday (April 7) to allow the authorities to conduct further investigations.

“We take this incident seriously as it involves facilities provided for public convenience.

“BDA will enhance security monitoring and cooperate with the authorities to prevent such incidents from recurring,” the local authority said.

BDA also urged members of the public who have any information regarding the incident to come forward and assist with the investigation by contacting the police or the BDA office directly.

This incident has raised concerns as the Pavilion Public Toilet was only opened on November 30, 2024, in conjunction with World Toilet Day, as part of efforts to improve public amenities here.

BDA further called on the community to work together to protect public facilities for the collective wellbeing.
