Five anglers rescued, one missing after boat capsize

TANJUNG MANIS: Five anglers were rescued and another remained missing after a fishing boat they were on capsized in bad weather conditions near Muara Rejang yesterday (Apr 4).

In a brief update a spokesman for the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) said the rescued anglers were brought to the Fisheries Development Board (LKIM) Belawai jetty around 2pm.

They were then taken to the Belawai health clinic for further treatment.

It was learnt the MMEA Tanjung Manis operations centre came to know of the capsize after a man from the Sibu Fishermen Association alerted them.

The boat is believed to have capsized in rough seas around 10.35am, some seven nautical miles northwest of Tanjung Jerijeh.

As at press time, search and rescue (SAR) efforts were still being carried out to locate the missing angler.
