KUCHING: Five local men aged between 24 and 83 were arrested during a police raid for allegedly engaging in cockfighting at a vacant lot in Sungai Apong here last Sunday (Feb 15).
Kuching police chief, ACP Alexson Naga Chabu, said the raid was conducted at about 4.14 pm following information received.

Initial investigations found a group of men actively conducting cockfighting activities at the location.
“Upon noticing the presence of police, several individuals fled into a nearby forest area. However, five local men were successfully detained to assist in investigations.
“Police also seized several items believed to have been used in the activity. Urine screening tests conducted on all suspects returned negative results,” he said in a statement.
The case is being investigated under Section 73(1)(g) of the Veterinary Public Health Ordinance 1999, which carries a fine of up to RM2,000, imprisonment of up to six months, or both upon conviction.
Alexson advised the public not to engage in illegal activities and urged those with information to contact the district police headquarters (IPD) control centre at 082-244444.
