KUCHING: Police arrested five local men and seized three modified motorcycles during Ops Samseng Jalanan carried out here last night (May 11).
Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the men, aged between 18 and 20, were arrested for alleged offences under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
“In addition, three motorcycles were seized under Section 60 of the same Act for further inspection as they were found to be altered from their original structure,” he said in a statement today (May 12).
Alexson added the operation, which ran from 11.00 pm last night until 5.00 am this morning, covered several locations including Jalan Tun Abdul Rahman Yakub, Jalan Tun Salahuddin, Jalan Gersik, and the MASJA area.
“The operation was led by a senior officer from the Kuching Police Headquarters’ Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division, with the objective of curbing illegal street racing and ensuring compliance with road regulations,” he said.
Throughout the operation, he said police also checked 18 individuals, 18 motorcycles and issued 31 traffic summonses for various violations.
“Road users are reminded to drive responsibly, stay alert, avoid involvement in street racing activities, and refrain from modifying their vehicles’ original structure.
“As reckless driving or riding not only endangers the driver but also poses a risk to other road users,” he said.
