KUCHING: Police will be rolling out a five-day ‘Ops Lancar’ in the district to ensure smoother traffic flow and reduce the risk of road accidents during the year-end festive and school holiday period.

The operation, aimed at managing traffic congestion in the city, will commence from Dec 29 and will end on Jan 2, involving a total of 10 senior officers and 40 personnel.

Kuching police chief Alexson Naga Chabu said they are expecting large crowds from surrounding districts to be in the city during the school holidays and public holidays.

“Police attention during the operation will focus on several roads identified as congestion hotspots, including Jalan Gambier, Jalan Wan Alwi, Jalan Lapangan Terbang, Jalan Tun Jugah, Jalan Tabuan, Jalan Stutong Baru, Jalan Setia Raja, Jalan Pending, Jalan Tun Abdul Rahman Yaakop and Jalan Rock.

“Members of the public are advised to plan their journeys early to avoid traffic congestion, particularly during peak hours, the school holiday period and the year-end shopping season,” he said.

He advised the public to avoid peak travel hours by scheduling errands or travel during early mornings or later in the evening, use alternative routes instead of relying on one main road, and check real-time traffic conditions through navigation applications or official social media channels before heading out.

Members of the public are also encouraged to reduce unnecessary travel by combining multiple errands into a single trip, comply with instructions and signals given by traffic police on duty, and practise patience and courtesy on the road by avoiding queue-jumping, improper parking and aggressive driving.

Alexson said police will continue to carry out continuous traffic monitoring and enforcement, particularly in high-traffic areas.

In light of this, road users are reminded to drive cautiously, obey traffic regulations and maintain a considerate attitude on the road.

Such public cooperation is vital to ensuring safety, comfort and smooth traffic flow in the district.
