KOTA SAMARAHAN: The Stakan Unity Carnival 2026 will bring the community together through five days of sporting, cultural, environmental and patriotic activities from Aug 26 to 30.

Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) chairman Abang Ismawi Abang Ali said the carnival at UniCentral Commercial Park, Kota Samarahan would provide a platform for people from different backgrounds to interact and participate in community activities.

“Through this carnival, we want to strengthen unity and harmony while creating opportunities for the community to participate in activities that promote recreation, culture, patriotism and environmental awareness,” he told a press conference at the MPKS meeting room here, today.

The carnival is organised by MPKS in collaboration with Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS), the Stakan Service Centre, Yayasan Budaya Melayu Sarawak (YBMS), Belia Stakan and SABERKAS Stakan, with participation from government agencies, NGOs, educational institutions and the local community.

Among the activities lined up are the Stakan Idol singing competition, Puzzle Battle, Street Soccer, Penalty Kick, Fun Shot, traditional archery, carom and Beyblade competitions.

Abang Ismawi said the programme also emphasised inclusivity, environmental awareness and cultural diversity.

The Patriotic OKU competition will provide an opportunity for persons with disabilities to participate in patriotic and community-based activities, while a 3R programme will promote awareness of waste management and environmental conservation.

The carnival will also feature Chinese cultural activities, an open National Day fashion show and various entertainment performances.

On Aug 29, the public can participate in a ‘Buy Back Campaign’ by bringing recyclable materials, while a K9 demonstration will showcase the capabilities and role of K9 units in security and enforcement.

The carnival will culminate on Aug 30 with the National Day Night Run, held as a prelude to the Aug 31 National Day celebrations.

The closing ceremony that night will be officiated by Stakan assemblyman Datuk Hamzah Brahim.

Abang Ismawi said the carnival reflected MPKS’ commitment to building a harmonious, inclusive, active and united community in Kota Samarahan.
