SELANGAU: A five-door longhouse at Rumah Lampong, Ulu Sikat, here was partially destroyed in a late-night fire last night (Oct 23).
Firefighters from the Selangau Fire and Rescue Station were dispatched to the scene following an emergency call received at 11.07 pm.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sarawak in a statement said firefighters arrived at 11.32 pm to find the longhouse already engulfed in flames.
“One unit of the longhouse was completely destroyed, while another unit sustained 90 per cent damage.
“Two units were reported to have been 100 per cent destroyed in the kitchen area only,” the department said, while adding that each unit measured approximately 19 by 90 square feet.

Firemen brought the blaze under control using water sourced from a nearby fire hydrant.
Overhaul operations continued until the fire was fully extinguished before the operation ended at 2.27 am.
Fortunately, all the occupants managed to escape safely and no injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire and the estimated losses are still under investigation.
