BINTULU: Five eateries have been ordered to close down temporarily after they failed to meet the required hygiene standards under Section 23(1) of the Public Health Protection Ordinance 1999.

The closures were made following a series of inspections carried out by the Bintulu Development Authority’s (BDA) Food Safety and Hygiene Control Unit last week, which covered 35 premises across town, Kidurong and Nyigu areas.

Two of the affected premises are located in the town, two in Kidurong, and one in Nyigu.

BDA said the five premises were found to have violated the hygiene regulations, resulting in the presence of rats and disease-carrying insects.

“Food hygiene is a serious issue as it poses a serious risk to public health.

“Strict actions will be taken against any premises found neglecting hygiene standards and in violation of the rules,” BDA said in a statement.

Regular inspections will be conducted to ensure all food handlers comply with the public health guidelines.

BDA urges all food operators to be responsible and maintain cleanliness at their premises as safe food preparation not only protects consumers but also reflects the operators’ integrity and professionalism.

The public is encouraged to report any food hygiene-related complaints to BDA to ensure prompt action can be taken swiftly.
