KUCHING: Five individuals tested positive for prohibited substances during separate joint enforcement operations conducted in two districts on today (July 15).

The operations, conducted by the Sarawak Road Transport Department (RTD) together with the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) and the Sarawak Immigration Department, was carried out along Jalan Selirik in Kapit and Jalan Bintulu-Sibu in Bintulu.

Authorities inspected a total of 341 vehicles, with multiple offences detected, including driving without a valid licence, expired road tax, breaches of Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (CVLB) permit conditions, and other vehicle-related technical offences.

In Kapit, AADK screened 14 individuals, with four testing positive for methamphetamine.

Meanwhile in Bintulu, the agency also screened 34 individuals, with one person testing positive for kratom.

No immigration-related offences were detected during the operations.

Sarawak RTD said enforcement action was taken against all offenders in accordance with the relevant laws.

The department stated that joint operations with enforcement agencies will continue to strengthen compliance with road transport regulations and promote safer roads.
