MIRI: Five families were left homeless after a pre-dawn fire swept through a longhouse at Rh Henry Gomes in Kampung Mission, Ulu Teru, Tinjar, early today
The blaze, which broke out at about 2am, destroyed five living units and displaced 10 residents. No fatalities or injuries were reported.
Those affected comprise three adult men, three adult women, two boys, one girl and one elderly woman.
The displaced residents did not move to a temporary relief centre. Instead, they are staying with relatives while awaiting further assistance.
The affected longhouse is located in the Tinjar sub-district within the Marudi state constituency and the Baram parliamentary constituency.
The cause of the fire has yet to be established, while the extent of the losses is still being assessed.
Authorities said further updates would be released as more information becomes available.
