BINTULU: Five people were injured after a Proton Saga was involved in a self-accident along Jalan Bintulu–Miri on Monday afternoon, prompting an emergency response from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba).

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Operations Centre reported that the incident was called in at 1.55pm. The first engine from the Bintulu Fire and Rescue Station arrived at the scene, located approximately 33km away, at 2.28pm.

There were six occupants in the vehicle at the time of the crash: two men, three women, and a male child. While five of the passengers sustained various injuries, the driver escaped unharmed.

Firefighters from the Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) unit provided immediate treatment at the scene, which included fitting cervical collars and immobilising the limbs of victims suspected of having suffered leg fractures.

All five injured victims were subsequently transported to Nyabau Hospital in Bintulu via the EMRS unit and Health Ministry ambulances for further treatment.

The operation was brought under control at 2.46pm and concluded at 3.32pm after the team ensured the area was safe.

A total of 12 personnel were deployed to the scene, supported by a Fire Rescue Tender and one EMRS vehicle. Police and Health Ministry officers were also in attendance. The operation was led by PBK I Shukri bin Salleh.

Authorities have not yet disclosed the cause of the accident, which remains under investigation.
