MERADONG: Police have arrested five men believed to be involved in a series of house break-ins around Sungai Bian, following raids carried out last week.
Meradong police chief DSP Tansli Mering said the local suspects were taken into custody during operations mounted by the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) on Sept 25 and 26.
“Further checks led to the recovery of several items believed to be stolen property reported missing earlier.
“Urine tests conducted on all suspects returned positive for drugs,” he said in a statement.
With the arrest of these suspects, police have classified the case as solved.
Tansli advised the public to remain vigilant and take precautionary measures when leaving their homes or properties, especially during long holidays, to avoid becoming victims of house break-ins.
The case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code for house-breaking, which carries a jail term of up to 14 years and a possible fine, upon conviction.
