KUCHING: Boxers from Joe’s Boxing Academy (JAB) impressed at the 2025 National Golden Gloves and Youth Boxing Championship, winning five medals and highlighting Sarawak’s growing talent ahead of the 2026 Malaysia Games (SUKMA).

The team, coached by Zulkarnain Majidi and Saiuddin Julaihi, brought home a total of five medals, one gold, two silver, and two bronze.

The gold medal was secured by Anna Valentine Tie in the women’s youth 52kg category, while the silver medals went to Janessa Jayet Marcus (women’s youth 48kg) and Anderton Tie Texk Hieng (men’s youth 86kg).

The two bronze medals were won by Hextor Azmi Donny (54kg) and Riq Roland (60kg), both in the men’s youth categories.

The championship was held over seven days, from May 4 to May 10, at the National Boxing Training Centre in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan.

JAB secretary Zulkarnain Jemat was proud of the team’s achievements.

“The performance was very encouraging and provided early exposure for the boxers.

“This is part of our initial preparations to select the best boxers to represent Sarawak at the Malaysia Games (SUKMA) 2026 in Selangor,” he told Sarawak Tribune.

He added that it was especially impressive to see the young boxers hold their own against more experienced opponents.

Zulkarnain also extended his gratitude, on behalf of JAB, to the boxers’ families and all supporters.

“We hope the support we’ve received so far will continue into the future,” he said.

Joe’s Boxing Academy (JAB) also serves as the Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC) Sibu Boxing Excellence Centre.
