KUCHING: Sarawak could potentially reach five million visitors by the end of December, said Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.
The Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts noted that Sarawak has already exceeded its 2024 visitor target of four million.
“But then we never know if there is a sudden upsurge in December, it might even hit five million,” he said during a press conference for the upcoming Boney M 50th Anniversary Tour at Baitul Makmur II Complex, here yesterday.
Looking ahead, he said 2025 will be a year of exceptional international appeal.
“Probably every month, we have some international event. Maybe we might be able to bring in tourists to come in. But I just crossed my fingers,” he said.
He added that the state will kick off the year with a series of high-profile events, including a performance by Boney M and the Under-19 Women’s Cricket World Cup, which will be broadcast to 180 countries.
“That’s how we are going to start 2025, with a bang.
“Everybody is really looking forward and very inspired. I’ve got a very good team doing the promotion. We will be seeing lots of festivals,” he added.
