Five months’ jail for causing grievous hurt

KUCHING: A male worker at a timber factory was sentenced to five months in prison by the Magistrate’s Court here today for acting aggressively and beating his friend using a wooden bench last August 13.

Accused Mohamad Fuad Ganti, 31, pleaded guilty to the charge which was read before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali.
According to the charges, he was charged with intentionally causing grievous hurt to a 23-year-old man using a stick and a wooden bench under Section 324 of the Penal Code.

He did the deed at a wood factory in the Bintawa industrial area here at about 8.05pm last August 13.

Upon conviction he could be punished with imprisonment up to ten years or fine or whipping or both.

According to the facts of the case, the complainant was suddenly beaten by a factory worker using a stick and a wooden bench, punching his head and pulling the complainant’s shirt.

The complainant then fled in the car and as a result of the blow, the complainant suffered pain in the head, neck and back of the body.

Subsequently he then made a police report for investigation and further action led to the arrest of the accused a day after the incident.

In addition, the accused was also identified as a wanted suspect and it is understood that during the incident, the accused acted aggressively and hit the victim when he was believed to be under the influence of alcohol.

The prosecution of the case was handled by Prosecuting Officer Inspector Mohd Adzmei Ahmad while the accused was not represented by a lawyer.
