LUBOK ANTU: Five individuals, including two women, were taken into custody yesterday (Dec 20) for allegedly abusing drugs and lacking valid travel documents.

Their arrests were made during an integrated crime prevention operation and ‘Ops Tapis Khas’, conducted around Engkilili and Lubok Antu areas.

Lubok Antu police chief DSP Pricha Azin said the suspects were two locals (a man and a woman) and three foreigners (two men and a woman).

“The locals were detained under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 after their initial urine tests returned positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.

“Meanwhile, the foreigners were arrested under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for failing to produce any valid travel documents,” he said.

Aside from that, the 28-member team also inspected 98 vehicles and 115 individuals, leading to 25 summonses for various traffic offences.

Pricha said police will continue to conduct periodic operations to ensure public safety, wellbeing and order in the district remain safeguarded.
