BAU: Narcotics police rounded up five men for alleged possession of suspected methamphetamine and substance abuse during an anti-drug sweep yesterday (July 13).

The arrests were made following operations conducted around Kampung Serasot, Kampung Serikin and Kampung Sebobok.

Bau police chief Supt Mohd Haide A Rahman said the team detained a 27-year-old labourer for allegedly abusing drugs in Kampung Serasot.

“They managed to recover a plastic packet containing 0.47g of suspected methamphetamine, estimated to be worth RM50.

“The suspect is being investigated under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for possession of dangerous drugs,” he said.

Meanwhile, the remaining four men, aged between 21 and 42, were detained for alleged involvement in drug abuse.

They, together with the possession suspect, later underwent urine screening tests at the Bau NCID office, where all five tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.

They are being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug consumption.

Background checks found that two of the suspects have prior drug-related records, with one previously investigated under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and another under Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act.

Mohd Haide said that during preliminary questioning, all five admitted to consuming syabu on the day they were arrested.

He added that police will apply for a remand order against the 27-year-old to facilitate investigations into the drug possession case, while the two repeat offenders are expected to be charged at the Bau Magistrate’s Court in connection with their previous drug-related cases.
