SARIKEI: A total of five projects under the 2024 Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) for the Sarikei parliamentary constituency and Repok state constituency have been officially handed over to appointed contractors, marking the beginning of infrastructure upgrading works in the area.
The site handover ceremony was organised recently by the Sarikei District Council (MDS) and officiated by Kapitan Ling Dien Yong, who represented Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii who is also the Sarikei MP and Repok assemblyman
The projects involve the upgrading of facilities at houses of worship and schools in the Sarikei area.
Two churches are among the beneficiaries — Sarawak Full Gospel Church, which will undergo toilet upgrading works, and Yien Sung Methodist Church, where improvements include the installation of floor tiles, stainless steel handrails and cement paving.
The remaining three projects involve educational institutions. At SJK (C) Wah Man, works include the installation of floor tiles, construction of a retaining wall, and installation of zebra blinds in classrooms.
In SK Selangan, the scope of work involves road resurfacing using premix, replacement of the administration block’s roof, upgrading of the security post, and installation of wall cladding.
Meanwhile, at SJK (C) Sze Lu, the project includes upgrading the school stage, storeroom and main gate.
Community representatives and project beneficiaries have expressed their gratitude to Huang for his continued commitment to improving local infrastructure through phased development initiatives.
