KUCHING: The 21st Malaysia Games (SUKMA) scheduled for this August will provide facilities for athletes and officials involved with the completion of five Sport Villages in Sarawak.

Minister of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said these sport villages are the most extensive ever provided by the Sarawak government throughout its three times hosting the event since 1990.

He said the largest sport village will be located at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), while the other four will be in Sibu, Mukah, Bintulu, and Miri.

“For the sport village at UNIMAS, it will accommodate all athletes and officials competing in Kuching, Samarahan, and Serian,” he said.

He said this during the SUKMA & Para SUKMA XXI Sarawak 2024 Baton Relay Programme for the Kuching Division held at Kuching Waterfront here today (June 23).

However, Abdul Karim noted that they are facing logistical challenges regarding the movement of contingents involved in this year’s SUKMA.

“Organising logistics this time around is quite challenging. Besides Sarawak’s contingent facing some difficulties in this matter, other states will also be slightly affected.

“Nevertheless, we will ensure that everything is effectively managed so that this issue does not become a major problem for them,” he said.
