KUALA LUMPUR: Terengganu, Selangor, Pahang, Negeri Sembilan and Perak have recorded an increase in the number of evacuees at temporary relief centres, while Perlis, Kelantan and Kedah reported a decline as of this evening.
In TERENGGANU, the number of flood evacuees rose to 8,909 people from 2,742 families as of 8:00 pm, up from 6,335 people from 1,913 families reported in the afternoon.
They are currently housed at 119 temporary relief centres in Kemaman, Marang, Kuala Terengganu, Kuala Nerus, Setiu, Dungun, Hulu Terengganu and Besut.
Terengganu Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) Chief, Supt Afandi Husin, said several roads in Kuala Terengganu town, including Jalan Kamaruddin-Jalan Batu Burok and Jalan Pengadang Akar-Terengganu contingent police headquarters-Wisma Darul Iman, have been closed to light vehicles.
In SELANGOR, the number of evacuees rose to 3,542 people from 973 families, up from 3,125 people from 838 families reported in the afternoon.
According to the Social Welfare Department’s (JKM) InfoBencana portal, a total of 27 relief centres are operating across five districts – Klang, Kuala Selangor, Sabak Bernam, Sepang and Kuala Langat.
In PAHANG, the number of evacuees rose to 1,705 people from 538 families, compared with 1,066 people from 333 families recorded this afternoon.
According to the JKM InfoBencana portal, Kuantan recorded the highest number of evacuees with 639 people from 218 families housed in 11 relief centres, followed by Maran with 403 people (97 families) in seven centres.
In Raub, 336 people (102 families) were placed in 17 centres, while Lipis recorded 327 people (121 families) at 12 relief centres.
In PERAK, the number of flood evacuees rose to 6,429 people from 1,980 families housed in 47 relief centres across six districts, compared with 5,503 people from 1,663 families recorded this afternoon.
According to the Perak Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) Secretariat, Manjung continued to record the highest number of victims, with 2,260 people from 686 families.
The number of flood victims has also increased in NEGERI SEMBILAN to 313 people from 127 families as of 8:00 pm, compared to 156 victims from 47 families reported in the afternoon, with all evacuees placed in seven relief centres.
Meanwhile, in PERLIS, the number of evacuees has decreased to 7,116 people compared to 7,345 this afternoon, with all victims housed in 24 relief centres across Padang Besar, Kangar and Arau.
KELANTAN also recorded a drop in the number of evacuees to 3,448 people from 1,273 families tonight, compared to 3,484 previously, with all victims accommodated at 19 relief centres in Tumpat, Pasir Mas, Tanah Merah, Kuala Krai, Machang and Gua Musang.
Meanwhile, the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) Public InfoBanjir reported that water levels in several major rivers in Kelantan remained above the danger, warning and alert thresholds as of 8:15 tonight, namely Sungai Golok in Rantau Panjang, Sungai Kusial in Kusial Baru, Tanah Merah, Sungai Galas in Limau Kasturi, Gua Musang, and Sungai Kelantan in Kuala Krai.
In KEDAH, the number of evacuees has decreased to 3,758 people from 1,193 families as of 8:00 tonight, compared to 4,280 people from 1,367 families this afternoon.
According to the Kedah JPBN, all victims from Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar and Pokok Sena remain sheltered at 18 relief centres.
Meanwhile, in MELAKA, State Secretary Datuk Azhar Arshad, who is also the chairman of the state JPBN, said 20 people from four families have been placed in four relief centres in Alor Gajah.
This is after three rivers – Sungai Melaka in Cheng, Sungai Melaka in Melaka Pindah and Sungai Durian Tunggal in Batu 11 Air Resam – recorded danger levels after continuous heavy rain since yesterday, which caused flooding in several areas in the Alor Gajah and Melaka Tengah districts. – BERNAMA
