Five surveyors stranded in jungle rescued

The victims are found safe by the rescuers.

KUCHING: Five surveyors were stranded in the jungle near Kampung Stenggang, Jalan Bau-Lundu near here, Saturday night.

According to the State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), six personnel led by Senior Fire Officer II Tiwi Nios from Bau fire station were deployed to the location after a report on the incident was received at 10.20pm.

Upon arrival, the rescuers were informed by the victims’ employer, David Visan, that the five, aged between 25 and 45, were safe and they were unable to continue their journey back to their meeting point due to darkness.

The firefighters managed to contact one of the victims via his mobile phone and told him to inform the rest of the group remain at their current location so that they could track them (victims) down. The rescue operation however, was called off at 11.36pm due to heavy rain.

The rescuers continued their search at 6.00am yesterday and found the victims in Bamploka area near the village at 8.15am.

The rescue operation ended 8.20am, added the department.
