SIBU: A habitual drug offender was today sentenced to five years’ imprisonment for consuming illegal substances.

Sessions Court Judge Marutin Pagan also ordered Ngien, 43, to be given two strokes of the cane.

He was also directed to be placed under police supervision for three years upon his release and to report himself at Sungei Merah Police Station once every three months.

According to the charge sheet, Ngien had taken amphetamine at about 1.25pm on Jan 11.

He has three previous convictions for taking drugs.
