KUCHING: The first floor of a tahfiz centre at Jalan Semerah Padi was destroyed in a fire yesterday evening (July 20), believed to have been caused by an electrical short circuit.
Witnesses said the flames were confined to the upper level of the two-storey Mahaad Tahfiz Husnul Khotimah building, while the ground floor remained intact.
All 20 students and four ustaz managed to escape without injuries in the 5.47 pm incident.
Firefighters from Petra Jaya and Padungan stations were promptly dispatched to the scene following an emergency call.
The team managed to bring the blaze under control using water sourced from a nearby hydrant and a pump engine.
The operation ended at 6.46 pm.
