NEW DELHI: Flash floods killed at least 18 people in northern India and many were reported missing in Uttarakhand state as river waters surged after heavy rains.
Roads, bridges, homes and hotels were damaged in several places in Uttarakhand in the latest weather-caused devastation.
At least 13 people were killed in the state capital, Dehradun, and two died in other locations, while 16 were reported missing, according to local media reports late on Tuesday.
In one incident, the bodies of eight of 12 people travelling in a tractor trolley were recovered from a swollen river.
In the bordering state of Himachal Pradesh, at least three people were killed when a house collapsed in the Mandi district after torrential rains, which caused landslides and floods.
These two states and the neighbouring regions of Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir have been among the worst flood-hit places in this monsoon season.– BERNAMA
