Floating corpse identified by family members

MUKAH: A public member here yesterday saw a corpse floating at Mukah River near the Mukah Riverview Restaurant adjacent to the Tua Pek Kong in Mukah Old Bazaar.

According to the local police chief here DSP Jimmy Panyau, the case considered a sudden death of which the report was received at 5.45 am by Cpl Mohd Hairumi Way who was on duty manning the Complaint Counter at Mukah Police Station.

The caller who saw the floating corpse identified himself as Mat Jin. Jimmy said, after receiving the call policemen on duty rushed to the scene. Based on initial investigation, they found the body still in good condition face down, the police chief pointed out. No identity document was found attached to the body that was clad in a collared yellow T-shirt.

He was wearing greenish brown long pants with belt. No injury mark was found at the body. The remains were sent to Mukah Hospital for post mortem. Jimmy added, the victim was later identified by family members as Augustine John Jana,53, from Kampung Petanak,Mukah.
