TATAU: A woman and a young girl were rescued from Sangan Health Clinic on Saturday night (Jan. 10) after floodwaters surged to about one metre around the area following persistent rain.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Tatau station were dispatched to the scene following a distress call at 7.48 pm.

Upon arrival, the team confirmed that rising waters had cut off access to the clinic, leaving several individuals stranded.

Firefighters utilised a fibre boat belonging to a member of the public to evacuate a woman and a young girl, ferrying them roughly 100 metres to a safe, unflooded area.

Both were later taken to stay with their family in Tatau town.

Meanwhile, seven others – comprising five men and two women – declined evacuation and chose to remain at the clinic.

The team advised them to remain alert and closely monitor the rising water level as rain persisted.

Once the situation was deemed safe, the team wrapped up the operation and returned to base.
