SIBU: The 780-metre Ling Kai Cheng Road, which was affected by flooding, will be upgraded under a disaster restoration project at a total cost of RM2.5 million.

Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing, and Local Government Datuk Michael Tiang said since the road is a main route, when it flooded, at least 7,000 households were affected.

“Jalan Ling Kai Cheng has been paralysed for the past few days. No cars could use that road, and it is one of the main roads connecting the town centre, affecting the Bawang Assan, Nangka, and Pelawan constituencies.

“We are requesting around RM2.5 million under the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) budget to raise the road level so that future flooding can be prevented,” he said.

He said this to reporters after Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and his wife Puan Sri Datuk Amar Jumaani Tun Tuanku Bujang made a Chinese New Year visit to Tiang’s residence at Jalan Terap today (Feb 2).
