MIRI: A sudden flood struck the rural communities of Long Kerong and Long Sait in Ulu Baram district early this morning, prompting a swift response from the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba).

“Multiple agencies, including the Resident’s Office, Bomba, and Welfare Department are working tirelessly to assist the affected areas.
“Our focus is on aiding residents in need and closely monitoring the situation on the ground,” said Bomba’s acting director Tiong Ling Hii.
Dramatic footage released by Bomba showed the harrowing scenes: locals wading through knee-deep floodwaters to evacuate an elderly woman, and a Long Kerong villager awakening in shock to rising floodwaters at 2 am, a stark reminder of the uncommon nature of such occurrences in the area.
In a heartwarming display of community spirit, residents used loudspeakers to guide each other to safety as floodwaters surged.
Morning light revealed the true extent of the devastation, with homes caked in mud, an evidence of the impact on villagers’ lives.
